What do we do?
Founded in 2010, ShowGizmo develops apps that make events better. Before ShowGizmo, events and meetings were cluttered. Mountains of paper and out-of-date printed schedules left attendees in a cloud of confusion. Interaction with speakers and other attendees was stifled. Organizers had a very difficult time measuring and understanding the success of their events.
ShowGizmo solves those problems, and we are on a mission to help event professionals produce GREAT events. We have created powerful apps with a myriad of features designed to put all of your event information into the hands of attendees. From live polling, lead qualification and beacon integration to Q&A, surveys and turning smartphones into microphones--we work tirelessly to push the boundaries of what is possible in the world of events.
Who are we?
Before we began building apps, we were event professionals and organizers. Our technology is world-class, but we are not just programmers trying to code for problems that they don’t understand. We have lived and breathed event production. We understand what makes an event great—and we know all about the pitfalls. We’ve taken that hard-earned experience and created a technology that enables truly great event experiences. ShowGizmo has powered thousands of events worldwide. Our team is truly global; we are based in all corners of the world from New Zealand to USA (and everywhere in between)!

Who we work with
Well, yes OK, I am a ginger ... but not a typical one! I like working — yes really I do — and seeing new places, listening to music that moves me, eating chocolate, chocolate-related food and food in general.
I'm a business development, sales and capital-raising specialist having run my own and other people's businesses. Prior to SmartShow, most recently I was the establishment General Manager of the Wellington (New Zealand's capital) angel investment network and my 'girl geek' status was confirmed when I was appointed as chair of Unlimited Potential, New Zealand's leading technology business network, in 2006, a position I held for two years. I have been interested in the potential for technology to shape meetings and events since my involvement with Virtual Expos NZ established in 2007.
I've also owned a sales/business development consultancy, started and sold a café, managed sales for an enterprise software company in Wellington, established a government project office and founded a tech-startup which funded my Philosophy degree.
When I said I liked work, I meant it! In my spare time, I'm actively involved in the World Mentor programme, mentoring schoolgirls planning tech careers and have recently set up Founder Friday, a peer-to-peer networking group for female tech entrepreneurs in Wellington. I also provide business advice to the local MakerSpace.
I moved to New Zealand with my partner from the UK in 2001 and never looked back. We now live on a 60ft fishing trawler which we're renovating — a massive project which has now lasted several years and one which underlines my personal philosophy; no pressure no diamonds.
My dreams for the future are to travel the world working to give women the skills and confidence to follow their own dreams. People like Jessica Watson — only 16 and sailing all that way on her own — inspire me. I was paralysed with fear and couldn't open my eyes for the six hours it recently took us to cross the Cook Strait! I relax by beating the boxing bag to bits, then quaffing a cool Chardonnay.
I'm a typical easy-going Kiwi who enjoys all sport, going barefoot whenever possible and the occasional beer. I think my friends would (hopefully) describe me as enthusiastic, sociable and having a range of different skills.
I'm a graduate of Otago University with a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Marketing, Management and Psychology. During my time as a student I founded an online service for students enabling them to more easily file their tax returns (Student Tax Returns). I was then co-founder of an online ticketing company (1-night.co.nz) before joining the ShowGizmo team. My strengths are in helping event organisers make their events more engaging and successful. I also enjoy event marketing — putting together two Event Camps, one in Australia and the other in the Middle East, has been a great experience. While both were physical events, they also attracted online audiences from around the world.
Putting together social media strategies, is intuitive to me and I constantly monitor event professionals' channels to stay ahead of trends in technology and social marketing. I'm enjoying representing ShowGizmo as a speaker on Social Media, Marketing for Events and the Evolution of Event Apps.
I'm inspired by the concept of sustainable businesses and innovative technologies of all sorts, which is why I love working for ShowGizmo; a young, innovative technology, which is sustainable. I get a buzz out of being part of a young New Zealand business that's taking its technology to events around the world and proving that distance is no barrier to countries like ours sitting right on the edge of the world.

I’m an Upstate New Yorker turned part Australian (married the most beautiful Aussie) that has travelled and lived all over the world – most recently spending four years in Melbourne, Australia.
Have worn many hats: researcher, marketer, strategist, communicator, collaborator, connector, manager, and director. As a result I have a unique ability at developing and implementing creative solutions and managing multi-disciplinary projects and initiatives for complex challenges – blah!
What I boil down to, my passion, is helping stakeholders – internal, external, current and future – identify and develop meaningful partnerships and sustainable solutions where everyone wins… and I don’t care about who gets the credit – I care about winning – together.
My experience has been with a broad range of clients and industries across the United States, Europe and Australia – ranging from local governments, to large state government departments and multinational corporate organizations, to not-for-profits, associations, universities, economic development entities and numerous small and medium sized businesses.
At ShowGizmo, I work with the most exponentially awesome and creative team of developers, producers, marketers and evangelists that have been mobilizing events and causing a stir in the meetings and events industry since 2010.
I joined the team after being a client for two years - yes I love ShowGizmo that much - and haven’t looked back since!
In my spare time I enjoy hiking, being outdoors and exploring my new home in Denver, Colorado. Friends would tell you that I enjoy people, value relationships, drink way too much coffee, love live music, am a political junkie and family/friends matter most to me – including my animals.
I’m a runner (from way back) and finisher of marathons – one being an ultra. I have learned from running, as well as in business and life, that there is no greater feeling than crossing the finish line and being surrounded by other winners - celebrating our hard work, dedication and success.

Matthew, from Deloitte Private, is our CFO and advises the team on strategy, governance and financial matters.
Matthew works with a variety of start-up and early stage businesses in the tech space leveraging his wide ranging experience across finance, technology & advisory services gained from roles at Barclays Bank, Lehman Brothers and PwC in the UK. In 2013 he moved to his wife’s hometown of Wellington where, prior to joining Deloitte Private, he worked in senior management roles for two high-profile local SMEs.
Hey, I'm Ben. I've been working in IT for getting on for 20 years. Prior to ShowGizmo I spent time at a variety of organisations including Trade Me and Xero ion a variety of technical and leadership roles. As a developer, I'm interested in things like design patterns, unit tests, code quality, unit tests, continuous delivery, and unit tests. I'm also passionate about helping developers, particularly juniors, get better at their chosen craft.
I'm excited by the prospect of working with Showgizmo to build some great product and develop a world class team.
Outside of work I enjoy sailing, restoring classic yachts, scuba diving, craft beer, and despairing of my dog's intelligence.
I'm a backend developer with a diverse range of experience having worked on embedded systems, games development, various web technologies and application development over the last 10 years. I bring this experience, my unwavering enthusiasm for all things geeky, and my passion for social justice to the ShowGizmo team.
I've spoken at WDCNZ and Kiwicon, two large technology conferences in Wellington in 2015. I'm hoping to continue to share my knowledge and expertise in spaces such as these while boosting ShowGizmo's profile.
In my free time, you'll find me playing and developing video games, knitting, learning guitar, or doing maintenance on my motorbike.
I describe myself as a multi disciplinary designer and problem solver, who enjoys a good challenge and is a bit of a nerd. As a child I wanted to be either a Ninja Turtle or Batman. Unfortunately, I (as yet) lack the multi-billion dollar funding of Batman, or the genetic make up and radio active waste required to be a ninja turtle. Thankfully I do have a wild imagination.
Somewhere between becoming a volunteer fire fighter and starting an illustrious after school career at the local New World, I discovered that I could turn my life long love of art and 'drawing' as I knew it, into a career through design and so in 2009 I set out for the windy city of Wellington to study for a Bachelor of Design. After graduating in 2012 I worked as a Print Production Supervisor and Graphic Designer in order to gain a better understanding of the technical side of my trade, departing the position at the end of 2014 with the same desire to understand the nuts and bolts of digital design, undertaking a total emersion bootcamp at Enspiral Dev Academy in order to develop a programming skill set before joining the ShowGizmo team.
In my spare time I enjoy staying fit and active through gym work and getting out and about. I have a great love of video games and also dedicate a fair bit of time to personal design and programming projects.
I’ve always loved adventure, and my life has become one after moving from France to NZ just after my graduation (well, actually it was already an adventure before, but it’s another [long] story).
Now, I continue my journey with ShowGizmo, beginning in 2015 as a member of the mighty tech team! On my TODO list, there are slots for writing a book, revolutionising fields like book edition through technology, finding a way to impact (greatly) the link between humanity and nature, setting up a red pandas refugee, and a few others.
In my spare time I love reading, writing, imagining things (literally anything), learning new skills, petting a cat, playing (video games, cards, whatever), hiking…
If I’m not in front of my computer programming/sketching a random weird idea, I’m probably at the zoo, spending time in front of the red pandas enclosure or doing volunteer tasks.
I spent my early years growing up on the family farm in the the snowy mountains of Southland. Always interested in technology, programming, and video games you could say I was destined to make a career out of cutting code. I spent four years studying computer science at the University of Otago and living the scarfie lifestyle, but most of that was spent watching Netflix and drinking Canadian Club while being wrapped in a large purple blanket. From a young age, I knew I wanted to make Wellington my home so after finishing my degree I made the move to the "big city". Outside of work, I enjoy staying active, playing video games and spending time with friends. I have a real love for dev work and spend time on personal projects or participating in hackathons.
I've recently joined the ShowGizmo team after completing Enspiral Dev Academy in 2015, and gaining some work experience with a couple of local digital agencies. I'm looking forward to further developing my skills, particularly Ruby/Rails. Prior to EDA, I worked in promotional marketing for a few years, and studied Communication at Massey University.
My interests outside of work include reading, animals and animal welfare, cooking, drinking wine, and eating cheese. Primarily the latter two.
Hey, I'm Sam. I've joined ShowGizmo after working at TradeMe for just over three years and am excited to work with a small team on some cool new projects. I love writing high quality code and making improvements to existing code. When I am not wielding the mighty keyboard I enjoy movies, board games, reading and Brazilian Ju Jitsu.
I'm a Melbourne girl through and through. I took a six month career break in 2012 to travel up the East Coast of Australia. At the end of six months, I found myself on the Gold Coast in Queensland where I decided to settle and I landed a Client Services role with iVvy Events, giving me my first taste of how technology can have such an amazing impact on the events industry. The road trip and relocation was a life changing experience, but I was very home sick after about a year and returned to Melbourne.
My experience is quite broad, ranging from events management, software training and education, IT, finance, business analysis and of course awesome customer service.
I've always been passionate about technology, geeky stuff and gadgets and am very excited to have the opportunity to contribute to and be part of the ShowGizmo team.
When I'm not working I like to get out and explore new places, I enjoy going for walks, coffee, shoes, playing poker, gaming, motor sport, music, playing guitar (or at least trying to), singing and dabbling in a little programming and web design (just for fun!). Love a good cider and a nice drop of wine.
Harking from the worlds of Event Management and Communications I fell in love with the ShowGizmo app and decided my mission in life is to help sell ShowGizmo to the world! 'This little beauty should sell itself,' I thought to myself when I started out and it really does.
Working in the fanzone for Rugby World Cup 2011, launching Wellington's environment centre at Sustainability Trust and regular outings to the show floor at a range of conferences give me inside knowledge of what the pressure is like on show days, and how good it feels when you pull it off well — and with less dead trees.
People often tap into my knowledge of social media and my extensive network of what I call Good People. As a side-line I help out at a non-profit called One Percent Collective, encouraging people to give 1% of their income to help small effective local charities grow.
Lover of the geek, the artist and the socially conscious business person you will find me where those types congregate (the pub, the theatre, gigs and art galleries).
I strongly believe a well-run event is a pleasure to behold and I love being in a position to help so many great people make this their reality.

I'm a Kiwi but I've been based in Bahrain since 2000. Career highlights include managing a portfolio of more than 20 international brands, successfully launching over 30 new brands/products and planning and executing no less than 500 events in the past 10 years!
As Managing Director of my own PR & Event company in Bahrain, representing ShowGizmo in the Middle East — unbelievably for the last four years now since Frances and Marie-Claire came out to the Middle East Event Show in 2011 — seemed like a no-brainer. I saw the app at the event and thought 'one of those please'.
I hold a degree in Tourism & Hospitality and my 15-year career spans New Zealand, Australia and the GCC giving a broad and in-depth knowledge of event management, public relations, corporate hospitality and sponsorship exploitation to our clients and the ShowGizmo team.

I would call myself by birth an Indian, by culture an Arab and by heart a Wellingtonian. I have been truly lucky to enjoy both sides of the world. I love tea and in my spare time I love to infuse my own tea brew. Orange Peking is favourite...
I am really delighted to be here at ShowGizmo with such a vibrant team. My expertise involves forging strategic partnerships for start up firms in the Middle East and Asian markets. I have strategically been involved with different tendering and procurement processes for companies such as AbuDhabi National Oil Company, Shell, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, Citi Bank Global, and AutoDesk just to name few.

A crazy adventure landed me at ShowGizmo and, to my elation, it never stopped there. You know that person in the office that’s really hilarious, smart and sweet... that’s not me. I do, however, think I’m way cooler than I actually am and won’t change my mind.
“I didn’t fit the mould so I broke it” is a quote I find very relevant and refreshing. I avoided studying after school and instead took a different route, the unplanned one. I have worked many exciting jobs (including a New York Circus) but my faves were within the entertainment coordination sector. As an Entertainment Manager at holiday hotels in South Africa, you would often find me on a stage, in my element, with a microphone in my hand. Years later, I’m in sales. How that happened, I don’t know, but I appreciate that it did. With a team and culture as diverse, progressive, and accepting as ours, I found my place! I’ll never know what life will do next and thus, remain adaptable and excited. It takes a lot to take the wind outta my sails: it doesn’t take much to get me enthused.
After years of travelling the world and learning from heaps of people, I’m here to put what I have learned to purpose. Watch this space. People describe me as amazing, terrific, legendary, smarter that Richard Branson and cooler than Leonardo Dicaprio. I’m so blessed to have such honest friends

After high school I left my cookie-cutter American suburb and never looked back. I attended Goldsmiths, University of London and fed my love of art history and big cities. I had the realization that life is all about the experiences and friendships you collect along the way and since then I have been on my own little adventure.
After university I landed a job working at the Denver Art Museum, helping with their large scale temporary exhibitions. Then one summer Cirque du Soleil came to town and I decided I needed a summer job. I was hired on permanently and three years later I can say I ran away with the circus and my gypsy heart is full of experiences and friendships (plus I got to drive a forklift).
Unable to work in a “normal” office environment my search for an innovative career-move lead me to Showgizmo, where my skills in customer service and events blend perfectly with my team.
No matter where I am in the world I always have a good book with me, usually a mystery novel. I love popcorn and watching X-Files or Twin Peaks. If you want to see me dance just put on any Queen song - Freddie Mercury is a personal hero of mine. So don’t stop me now…because I’m having such a good time.
I studied French at university planning to be a professional tourist, unfortunately, this doesn’t pay the bills so I sort of fell into admin work. 100 years later, I’ve worked in various admin office roles both here and in the UK, and have successfully bossed many people around while getting the important stuff done (like paying the wages and ordering the coffee).
Spare time – what is that? When I’m not working I’m hanging out with my two amazing kids. I’m an avid walker and like to head off into the hills to unwind and find silence. And I drink wine, lots of wine.
I am a South Island raised gal who migrated to Wellington two years ago to complete my BComm at Victoria University of Wellington. I began my studies working towards a degree in speech therapy however quickly learnt that marketing was my true passion.
I joined ShowGizmo in 2015 as an intern but found myself amongst such a great team that I didn’t want to leave... here I am, 6 months later still loving it!
I’m your typical 20-something, I enjoy socialising, sight-seeing, dancing, eating out and a cheeky house sav on a Friday night.
Like all the best people, I’m still under construction, but if the picture on the outside of my packaging is any indication of my abilities I’m either a highly adaptable Illustrator and Graphic Designer... or some sort of Swedish couch.
I presume I’m the former of those things due to a history of teaching myself everything I needed to push pixels and bend vectors, and a good chunk of time spent freelancing on the weirdest array of projects as well as time spent respectably employed building assets and interfaces for mobile devices.
Of course I could be anything as there appear to be a few weird left over bits in the bottom of my packing materials, (there always are with these sorts of things!). Amongst these accessories there are countless dice of unusual shape, a pair of headphones and stack of well read comic books from another life.
Although I am a beauty geek and a photography geek, I have delved into the world of event technology as a client services executive with ShowGizmo. I am based in Melbourne and do plan to travel within the next few years.
My photography work took me into event photography and I love the atmosphere of each event I have attended. Nothing compares to an exhibition centre full of people who are all interested in sharing knowledge, making connections and meeting people you only ever thought you'd see on television.
Being in the events industry allows me to travel, engage with people everyday, get creative and showcase all of my skills and passions, while learning new things along the way.
Kaiser has a background in sleeping inconveniently in the doorway and destroying shoes, and brings a wealth of expertise in these areas to the ShowGizmo team. When not chewing an old rope in the office his interests include hating the neighbours' cats, barking at nothing in particular, and waking Ben up at 3am by licking his face
Trevor's career has been all about applying new technology to old problems, starting in the oil and gas industry with Measurement While Drilling (MWD) and geodata services. His extensive experience includes roles with Geolink International, Geodata, Gearhart Industries MWD and Nec Gas Analytic Services Ltd.
Originally from Britain and now based in Wellington, Trevor continues to work around the globe. He describes himself as an 'uber geek' interested in anything to do with computers and technology. He demonstrates this interest by applying his practical experience as an early-stage investor in a range of start-ups in the education, science and entertainment sectors including investor in Lightning Lab, A-EON Technology, Azimuth Oilfield Systems Ltd, TJD properties Ltd and HRH Ltd, and as an Angel Investor at Angel HQ.
Professional executive with strong financial and legal background and a depth of experience developed across a range of industries and types of organisation. Currently working as the COO of a scientific software company, Biomatters, having served as their CFO prior to being appointed into the expanded role.
Andrew is an active supporter of entrepreneurship; an independent director of ShowGizmo, occasional angel investor and regular participant in the University of Auckland 'Spark' program. He is chartered as a Company Secretary, holds a law degree from Cambridge University and undertook some related financial education gained during a period working in the City of London. An enthusiastic football player and intermittent trail runner when he's not spending time with his wife and two children.
Gabriel is a technologist with a long history in the NZ and US tech sector. Gabriel has extensive experience in capital-raising, and has secured significant investment capital for start–ups both locally and internationally from public and private institutions.
The co–founder of a display technology company that listed publicly in the USA, Gabriel has a strong reputation for market driven innovation and careful management of early stage rapid prototyping and product development. Gabriel is the holder of over 30 granted patents. He has a proven track record in innovative cross–disciplinary company development and business acumen in international and multicultural environments.
Events are in my DNA, having spent the last 30+ years either working in them or providing technology to support them. Grew up in New Zealand, moved to Australia to follow the sun, then ended up in the USA where I now live. Love my role as President at EventBooking, (we were in the cloud before anyone knew what the cloud was!), I get to work with a wonderful group of people and clients. Nothing better than being told by your customers that they love your software - means we must be doing something right!
Before joining EventBooking, I held executive management roles with many other event tech companies such as Micros, Ungerboeck Software International, ASP Events and etouches – joining each of these in their early stages of development, with my main role being to drive global growth and adoption.
Having been lucky enough to receive so much from this amazing industry, I jump at the opportunity to give back and am actively involved with the Venue Management Association’s Venue Management School as an instructor at their annual school in Australia; and also sit on the Board of teccsociety. Being part of the Board at ShowGizmo is an honour and a privilege and I love being able to help a Kiwi company conquer the world!
Frances says entrepreneurialism must be in her DNA because in between ‘proper’ jobs throughout her career, she keeps returning to the startup scene: she loves the challenges and sheer creative energy that go into breathing life into concepts that will ultimately become an exciting business.
In addition to being co-founder and chair of ShowGizmo, Frances is also Managing Director of Moxie Communications, a boutique visual communications and brand strategy agency, and Director of Shrew Enterprises, her investment and consulting vehicle. During the last decade, she has also enjoyed being a member of the advisory boards to other startups — with close to 30 years of senior level international experience across the public and private sectors in a variety of roles and industries, she sees this as a natural progression.
Originally from Scotland, Frances was London-based for 14 years where she worked in international media and venture capital before moving to New Zealand in the mid-nineties. She’s a published writer, holds a Master of Arts with Honours in Medieval History from St. Andrews University and is chartered as a Company Secretary.
In an effort to escape the Auckland smoke, I flew down to Wellington to complete a BCOM and BA at Victoria University. I dabbled with law for 2 years before realising that I’m no “Harvey Specter” and took the higher road to marketing.
On the side of university, I’ve been involved in several start-ups that has sparked my keen interest in entrepreneurship and helping businesses grow.
Now, 22 years old; I am the fresh-faced marketing intern at ShowGizmo. My diet consists mostly of coffee and mojitos; something that isn’t likely going to change in the foreseeable future.
Full Stack Commercial professional whose passions are strategy, marketing, and sales driven disciplines within high growth tech companies.
Having never worked outside of software companies, I've been the Founder of an online business in the personal finance space, and worked for large corporates, to small startups working in and around the globe, predominantly in Asia and North America
I am passionate about and I love all things User Experience & Design, Innovation, and Minimalism. My heroes are Elon Musk, Jony Ives, Steve Jobs, Warren Buffet, Travis Kalanick, Ben Thompson, John Gruber, Michio Kaku, Neil Degrasse Tyson, & Carl Sagan to name a few.
I love surfing, snowboarding, trampolining, scuba-diving amazing places like Fiji, Malaysia, Australia or the Caribbean. I can be found aboard a cruise liner in my time off. I love trying to wrap my head around astrophysics, and love documentaries on anything sciencey!
Hi, I'm Brandon and I have worked in some aspect of IT for the past 10 years. I have held positions in help desk, business analysis, software implementation, and application administration. Prior to ShowGizmo I have worked with telecommunications companies, federal contracting, and institutions of higher education.
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, but realized way too late that programming all day was not my cup of tea. A jack of all trades, and a master in explaining technical concepts to the non-technical. This finely honed skill has positioned me as the default tech support for my entire family and many of my friends. I'm a well rounded nerd that dabbles in all facets of geek culture, I watch every sport possible, and attempt to ingest as much bacon as possible.
Events have featured strongly in my career to date; I've been an Event Manager in a previous life and now this role with ShowGizmo since the middle of 2014. During my time at university, I volunteered to help out at the Bestival and Bingley Festival in 2012 and I was funded to undertake an intensive 7 day approved CPD course in Event Management at Oxford University, run by the Events Business Academy.
Working with ShowGizmo - the team and our clients - has given me a whole new take on events, and the fast moving landscape of event tech is a real roller coaster ride. My great love is music and I graduated from Leeds College of Music in 2013... might sound like blowing my own trumpet when I mention with a First Class Honours Degree. Given any opportunity I engage with music in all contexts and I play mandolin, trumpet and piano in a combination of folk, classical and improvised settings. I'm a keen cook. Favourites are sushi, steak and Southern Indian curries (in that order).
